With several branches and specialists who are also speak English, our Greening Power is always within your reach. The Greening Power website is currently only available in Dutch.
Our history
Growing power through the years – from a local to a major nationwide player that also operates internationally.
In 1953, fruit grower Jan Mertens started supplying fellow growers in Baarlo. This is where the Mertens story began. In the ensuing years, various growth steps, relocations and takeovers of other supplies followed. Initially operating mainly in North Limburg, Mertens established a supply company for the German Lower Rhine region in 1994 with two partners. In 1995, a new head office was built in Horst, followed by further expansion throughout the Netherlands. Acquisitions included Bosman in IJsselmuiden in 1999, Van der Elst in Poeldijk in 2009, and Isidorus in Someren in 2015. In the year 2025, Mertens has offices in Horst, Maasdijk, IJsselmuiden and Someren.
The Dutch and German-speaking countries have been our home markets for many years, but global entrepreneurs in various segments are also increasingly finding their way to our company. Since 1996, Mertens has been part of the Marubeni Group: a solid and strategic shareholder which, with its Agri Business division, provides a good basis for the company’s continuous development.
