Adalia bipunctata

Effective against: aphids

Adalia bipunctata is a native ladybird species used to combat a wide variety of aphid species in different crops. The larvae are known for their voracity. The adult beetles also consume all life stages of aphids.

The adults are about 5 mm long and orange-red in color with black spots on the elytra and white markings on the pronotum. The eggs are elongated, yellow/orange in color, and are found in clusters on the undersides of leaves. Both the adults and larvae of Adalia are true predators; they devour aphids almost entirely.

Application:

There are no specific climatic requirements for release, although they prefer sunny conditions and dry crops.
Material should be released in the evening or early morning.
They should be placed on leaves affected by aphids.
Adalia bipunctata is supplied in containers or sachets containing 100 eggs or larvae.
The length of the larval stage depends on the temperature but will last around 20 days in a greenhouse.
