Aphytis spp. 100 pcs Entocare
SCALEX-Am contains the parasitic wasp Aphytis melinus, which is used for the biological control of various scale insect species, such as oleander scale, red scale (Aonidiella aurantii), and more. This parasitic wasp is about 1 mm in size, yellow in color, and moves very quickly.
The adult female lays her eggs under the scale, directly on the body of the scale insect. As the wasp develops, the scale insect dies. The young wasp emerges through a round to oval hole in the scale and immediately searches for a new host. Larger stages of the scale insect are particularly targeted.
The wasp also pierces scale insects and sucks them dry — a behavior known as host feeding. This too results in the death of the scale insect and contributes significantly to reducing the infestation.
