Bato has developed this stem support, in cooperation with a leading Dutch tomato grower. The new stem support is used with grafted and topped tomato plants in order to prevent tearing of the plant.
When the plant sinks there is tension at the point where the two stems are attached to the main stem. Because the plant experiences a rotational force, a tear can occur where the stems are connected to the main stem. The location of the tear is then a place where fungi such as Fusarium and Botrytis can settle easily. At a later stage of cultivation, this will result in plant failure.
