Chilocorus nigritus from Entocare is a shiny black, round beetle about 4 mm in size. The orange-brown head is hardly visible. The abdomen is chestnut brown. The larvae are yellow-brown and have a spiky appearance.

Chilocorus nigritus feeds on both small and larger stages of scale insects. Larvae and beetles lift the scale cover of the scale insect and feed on the body underneath the shield. Feeding traces are often visible as holes in the edge of the scale insect’s shield, sometimes the shield is lifted.
