Cryptanusia aureiscutellum 25 pcs Entocare
LONGIX Ca contains the parasitic wasp Cryptanusia aureiscutellum, which is used for the biological control of the long-tailed mealybug. This parasitic wasp is highly specific and does not parasitize other mealybug species.
The females are black and have strikingly large antennae that frequently move from side to side while searching for a host. Males are also black but have normal-sized antennae.
The females prefer to parasitize the younger stages of the mealybug. They lay one egg per mealybug. After parasitism, the mealybug swells slightly and darkens in color. This is called a mummy. When you see mummies, it means the wasps are actively working. However, these mummies can be difficult to spot, as they often drop off the plant.
About a week later, a young parasitic wasp emerges from the mummy by chewing a small hole at one end. Adult wasps also feed on mealybugs by piercing and sucking out the contents of the younger stages. This is called host feeding and also contributes to reducing the pest population.
The wasps can establish themselves well in the crop and remain active for several weeks, especially if they can find some honeydew as a food source.
