Nematodes: the perfect solution against sciarid flies

Sciarid flies can cause considerable damage in mushroom cultivation. The adult insects are attracted by the smell of the incubated compost while filling the growing rooms. Control these flies effectively by using the parasitic nematodes Steinernema Feltiae. Mertens offers these nematodes for mushroom cultivation under various product names, such as Entonem. 

Effect of nematodes

Nematodes can be applied with a watering can, rain pipe, backpack sprayer or sprayer truck. After application, the nematodes actively search for and penetrate the prey. The nematodes feed on the contents of the prey, excreting specific bacteria from their digestive tracts. These bacteria convert the host tissue into products that the nematodes can easily ingest. The larvae die within a few days.
