Orius Majusculus 5,000 pcs Agriprotect
Orius majusculus
Orius majusculus is a predatory bug that feeds on pollen from spider mites and small insects, mainly thrips, preying on all life stages. It is one of the few natural enemies that also targets adult thrips. At least two generations are produced per year, and the adults (especially females) overwinter. Early in the spring, these insects are very active, and adults can be observed throughout the year. Their size ranges from 2.5 to 3 mm, with females being larger than males.
Life Cycle and Activity
An adult female can lay 1 to 4 eggs per day, placing them along the veins or petioles of the plant. The life cycle consists of egg, nymphal stages (1 through 5), and adult. Under optimal conditions (22°C - 25°C), this predatory bug develops within 3 weeks. A distinctive feature of Orius majusculus is its red eyes. Besides their active behavior, they feed on various prey such as aphids, spider mites, and thrips. Using their rostrum, they suck out the fluids of their prey.
Optimal Storage Conditions
Shelf life is 1 to 2 days, provided the bottles are stored lying down, in the dark, at a temperature of 8ºC to 10ºC.
